Cinema Paradiso: Se
Just minutes ago, the Amazon package with my AKG P170 arrived. I haven’t played with small diaphragm condensers since the Behringer C-2 way back in 2015(?). Not sure why I bought it really other than to play around: arguably the Audio Technica AT-2020 has served me perfectly well since I bought it in 2014 and will continue to do so. I suppose I became a little obsessed with the idea of reduced proximity effect and a generally crisper, more precise sound in recent months.
So this is just a test recording: my voice is hardly in excellent condition and I played French horn for a good hour earlier this morning, so I’m not exactly fresh. I just really want to record something with this mic. Arguably this song was not a smart choice for a less-than-fresh voice, with the abundance of F4s that represent my highest comfortable note.
In this recording I have the Steinberg UR44 gain set to 2:00 and am standing 4 palm widths from the microphone, which is pointing at my nose at around my 11:00, the slight angle to minimise plosives.
I wonder if that C#3 is hitting some harmonic resonance with my tripod: that note comes through particularly sonorously in this recording….
